DietLense Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the DietLense app ("DietLense," "we," "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using DietLense you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and a unique account identifier through our sign-in providers (Firebase Authentication, Sign in with Apple, and Google Sign-In). If you use Sign in with Apple's private relay, we never see your real email.
- Nutrition and profile data. The meals, foods, portions, goals, body metrics, and dietary preferences you enter, plus any custom diets and family profiles you create. This is health and fitness information you choose to provide.
- Photos and descriptions you submit for analysis. When you scan a meal, a nutrition label, or a grocery product, or describe a meal in text, that image or text is sent to our backend and then to our AI provider to estimate the food and its nutrition.
- Purchase information. Subscription status is managed by Apple. We receive whether you have an active subscription, but we never receive your payment card details.
- Diagnostic data. Basic crash and error information may be collected to keep the app working.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To estimate calories, macronutrients, micronutrients, and health scores from your scans and descriptions.
- To save your meal history and sync it across your devices when you are signed in.
- To provide meal plans, grocery lists, recaps, and other app features.
- To manage your subscription and unlock paid features.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. AI Processing
Images and text you submit for analysis are sent securely to our backend and then to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) solely to generate the result you requested. Our AI provider processes this data under its own terms and, per its API policy, does not use it to train its models. Please do not scan private documents or anything you do not want processed.
4. How Your Data Is Stored
Account and nutrition data are stored using Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore). Photos used for analysis are processed transiently to produce a result and are not retained on our servers as a permanent library; images you choose to keep with a meal are stored on your device. Data in transit is encrypted.
5. Third-Party Services
- Google Firebase — authentication and cloud storage of your data.
- OpenAI — AI analysis of scans and descriptions.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and subscription processing.
- Open Food Facts — public product database used for barcode lookups and barcode-based health scores.
- Instacart — optional, only if you choose to send a grocery list to Instacart.
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.
6. Your Choices and Rights
- Use without an account. You can use core features with data stored only on your device.
- Delete your account. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account).
- Access and correction. You can edit or remove your entries in the app, or contact us for help.
7. Children's Privacy
DietLense is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
